Stories about South Alabama Entrepreneurs
In early 2019, the Gateway Initiative team began discussions with Chad and his team with One Baldwin to collaborate on a media-driven program to highlight local businesses and leaders in south Baldwin County. As we worked through the details of our partnership, COVID-19 became a 'pandemic' and our teams realized the community, in crisis, was begging for positivity as well as good, dependable information. Gateway was able to pivot the content focus to business support and relief news and resources, while also capturing real Baldwin County stories.
As our community acclimates to the new world of masks and social distancing, Gateway continues to produce story content and provide resources to our business community. A major tenet of Gateway is to promote entrepreneurship, always using an economic development lens; this project allows the world to be introduced to the uniqueness of our region.
Gateway Initiative Story Videos and Written Features focus on the heart and soul of Baldwin County businesses and community leadership. These stories are an opportunity for entrepreneurs to share their personal history, passion for their industry, and ‘sell’ their services as a byproduct. Instead of a restaurant owner advertising they have Shrimp & Grits on their menu, we use video and written storytelling to show the history behind a community harvesting the shrimp, display the art behind a chef (or a group of grandmammas) creating and cooking the recipe, and help visitors and locals alike feel they are a part of Lower Alabama’s culture through the development of this iconic recipe and the family business who serves it.
