Gateway to Great Careers hosted the second of 8 industry tours last week with Gulf Shores High School. Each month for the 2023-2024 school year, a maximum of 30 students and teachers hop on a bus and tour a specific industry. For the month of October, Aviation was the focus. Thank you to Coastal Alabama Community College, AirBus, and Collins Aerospace for exposing these juniors and seniors to the aviation industry.
The day started with speakers Dr. Dave Mosow and Joseph Metz with Coastal Alabama Community College discussing career opportunities. They gave salary examples for positions such as airplane mechanic, airframe and powerplant technology positions. They followed with a tour of many different lab classrooms where they work on the planes. We then headed over to the Airbus and Alabama FlightWorks campus where Cindy Phillips gave a great presentation to the students and talked about the vast amount of careers within the industry specific to AirBus.
Collins Aerospace provided lunch, and had several representatives from the company speak on the wonderful environment and morale of their workplace. "The students were so fascinated at the different assembly and production lines at Collins. They have heavy security and do not provide tours often, so it was a real privilege for all of us. I am so thankful for their partnership on this program," said Tyler Morgan of the Gateway team.
