Foley High School Engineering and Construction Industry Day

On February 27th, Foley High School students had a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the dynamic world of construction and engineering. This immersive field trip exposed students to active job sites, industry professionals, and essential infrastructure that powers our communities.

The day began at the Baldwin Health Surgical Center construction site, where White-Spunner Construction is leading construction efforts. Students took part in a hard hat tour of the site, offering them a close-up view of construction operations, safety protocols, and the various skilled trades required to complete a major healthcare facility project.

The group walked across the street to tour the renovations at Baldwin Health, led by MJ Harris. This tour provided students with insights into the renovation process, showcasing how existing facilities are updated and improved.

After completing the tours, the group departed for Riviera Utilities. The visit kicked off with a roundtable discussion featuring Kristy Dolihite from Ammons & Blackmon Construction and Adam Allen from Payne Pool Professionals. This session focused on exploring career opportunities, pathways into the workforce, and advice from professionals who have built successful careers in the industry. Following the Roundtable the directors of the Water Treatment, Gas, and Electrical divisions spoke to the students about their roles, operations, and employment opportunities within the organization.

The afternoon concluded with a guided tour of Riviera Utilities' substation and water treatment facilities, highlighting the essential services that support residential and commercial developments.

This industry day offered an invaluable experience for students to witness the real-world applications of their studies, gain exposure to potential career paths, and engage with industry professionals who could guide them in their future endeavors. By fostering these hands-on learning opportunities, Foley High School continued to prepare students for successful careers in the thriving construction and engineering sectors.
